We're pleased to offer the following services in our Sault Ste Marie Veterinary Hospital:

Our appointment book is computerized which allows us to efficiently make appointments for you and your pet. Our receptionists and team will attempt to accommodate all requests to the best of our ability. Emergencies are accepted anytime our clinic is open. If you feel you have an emergency with your pet, please call us or come to the hospital immediately. If possible it is best to call before coming in so that a staff member can advise you on your particular emergency.

Emergency & Urgent Care

We have a veterinarian and personnel on duty 5 days a week who are trained and equipped to handle any urgent care your pet has. Usually an emergency team consists of at least one veterinarian and several technicians working together to save a pet's life. Emergencies can be things such a snail bait poisoning, hit by car, and chocolate ingestion. If you ever feel that your pet needs emergency treatment do not hesitate to call or come in immediately. If possible it is best to call before coming in so that a team member can advise you on your particular emergency.

We understand that emergencies can arise at anytime.  We have a veterinarian on-call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.  If you have an emercency during the hours that we are closed, please call our hospital and a telephone number for the current on-call veterinarian will be provided by our answering service.

We are also available for urgent care when the condition is not life-threatening, but you feel your pet needs to be seen before you are able to get an appointment. Our veterinarians will work to "squeeze" you in between scheduled appointments. When you arrive, our receptionists will be able to give you an estimate on how long you may have to wait in order to be seen.

 Ultrasound                            P1030615_1.JPG

Sault Animal Hospital also offers full ultrasound services.  Ultrasound is a very useful diagnostic tool and allows us a way to peek inside the body without surgery.  Abdominal ultrasound is useful for detecting changes in organs such as the liver or kidneys.  Cardiac ultrasound (or echocardiography) allows us to view the functioning of the heart in real time.

For breeders, ultrasound is useful for detecting pregnancy in cats and dogs.  Also, the number of pups (or kittens!) can be counted and the due date can be calculated!

We also offer full surgical services.  We have extensive experience in both soft tissue and orthopedic procedures.  Some examples are:

  • Tumor/mass removal
  • Reconstructive surgery
  • Spays, neuters, and other routine surgery
  • Emergency procedures- Bloat (GDV)
  • Fractured bones
  • Knee (stifle) surgeries
  • Soft palate resection
  • Nasal surgery

We at Sault Animal Hospital take all surgeries and anesthetic procedures very seriously.  All surgical cases are evaluated for any medical condition that may complicate anesthesia.  We use this information to tailor anesthetic medicines to reduce the risk to the animal.  Even though it is impossible to completely eliminate anesthetic risk, we do everything we can to reduce it.  This is done through the careful selecting of the appropriate drugs and intra-op monitoring for possible issues.  Currently we boast a 0% anesthetic complication rate, and intend to keep it that way!

Laser surgery

Light Amplication by Stimulate Emission of Radiation, or Laser, is a recent addition to the veterinarians tool box.  Lasers are used in surgery to cut tissue.  However, unlike a scapel blade, the use of the laser greatly reduces the amount of bleeding during the surgery.  The laser also seals the ends of the nerves, greatly reducing the pain, both in surgery and after.

The benefits of laser surgery are reduced pain and swelling, reduced risk of infection, and better healing.
