Jeff LaHuis DVM Dr. Jeff LaHuis graduated from Michigan State University in 1995 with a Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine and a B.S. in Animal Science. Since graduation, he has practiced medicine around the state. Dr. LaHuis is the current owner of Sault Animal Hospital in Sault Ste. Marie. Before purchasing the clinic, he was employed at a large, 9 vet hospital in Battle Creek, Michigan. There he honed his skills at surgery and diagnostic ultrasound.
Dr. LaHuis has a special focus on the problems associated with working dogs, from strains and sprains to behavioral problems. He is also trained in both cardiac and abdominal ultrasound techniques. Personally he has trained several dogs through schutzhund, including titling two of his own dogs.
Dr. LaHuis resides in Sault Ste. Marie and shares his home with his wife and son and multiple animals:3 dogs,6 cats,and 3 snakes! Dr. LaHuis is also a solider in the US Army Reserve Veterianry Corps.Recently ,he has returned from a one year tour of duty to the Kuwait theater.There he was in command of a veterinary team responsible for food saftey and care of military working dogs.
Cassie Ayers DVM is a 2009 graduate of Michigan State University College of Veterinary Medicine where she earned her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine. She completed her undergraduate studies at Michigan State also, earning a B.S. in Animal science in 2003. She spent 6 months in the fall 2003 working with and prepping yearling thoroughbred horses for the sales, including the big September Keeneland sale In Kentucky.
Since earning her D.V.M. Dr. Ayers has been a associate Veterinarian at Sault Animal Hospital practicing general medicine and surgery. She is excited about honing her ultrsonography and dental surgery skills.
Dr. Ayers hails from Dexter, MI is thoroughly enjoying her new home in the Upper Peninsula which she shares with her husband and their Golden retriever. Some of her favorite things include: riding her horse (when she can find time), gardening, experimenting with new recipes, snowmobiling, and exploring the many and varied beautiful sites around the U.P.

Sault Animal Hospital welcomes new veterinarian
Dr. Jill Lynn will join Dr. Jeff LaHuis, Dr. Cassie Ayers and the team at Sault Animal Hospital on December 26. Dr. Lynn is a graduate of Michigan State University College of Veterinary Medicine. She serves as a captain in the U.S. Army Reserve Veterinary Corps, and recently returned from a 6-month deployment in East Africa. She commanded missions in remote areas of Uganda, Tanzania and Ethiopia and was awarded the Army Meritorious Service Medal. Partnering with local animal health workers, they treated thousands of cattle, camels, sheep, goats, chickens and a few dogs, cats, and monkeys.
In her civilian job, Dr. Lynn has worked in small animal practice in Okemos, Michigan. She is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association and the Michigan Veterinary Medical Association, having served on the Animal Welfare Committee and Leadership Development Committee.
“I am excited to join the great team at Sault Animal Hospital and provide compassionate care to local pets,” says Dr. Lynn. “For many years my husband and I have spent time in Sault Ste. Marie and we are thrilled to have the opportunity to live and work here, and become part of the community.”
Dr. Lynn is married to Bruce Lynn, operations manager at the Great Lakes Shipwreck Museum. Their family includes four dogs: Blanche, 16, Sheba 14, Mischka, 14, and Greta, 4, and two cats Bob, 12 and Pepita, 8. Dr. Lynn has a special interest in geriatric medicine, and end of life care.
Sault Animal Hospital is a full-service veterinary hospital located at 2867 Ashmun Street in Sault Ste. Marie. Hours of operation are Monday through Thursday from 8am-6:30pm and Friday from 8am to 5pm. After hours emergency service is available.
